香港中文大学卢怡君教授及其研究团队同时利用了高溶解度的液态活性物质和高容量的固态活性物质,形成一种半固液两相复合新型液流电池概念(MRSSL)。并且通过使用液态碘化锂电解液和固态硫/碳复合物作为一种组合,第一次成功的证明了碘化锂-硫/碳半固液两相复合新型液流电池的可行性。这种新型液流电池达到了550 Ah/L的阴极体积容量和580 Wh/L的全电池能量密度,并且拥有95%的库伦效率,这是迄今为止所达到的最高液流电池阴极体积容量。
