Assistant Editor – Chemistry (4 Headcounts)

Position Title: Assistant Editor – Chemistry

Job Summary:

Wiley Editorial Team is offering Assistant Editor positions based in our Beijing or Shanghai offices for our internationally renowned chemistry, materials science, and life science journals. You will gain on-the-job experience in many different aspects of author services, such as the acquisition and development of journal content, peer-review procedures, content acquisition skills, and contact with authors and referees from all over the world.

How will you make an impact:

  • Peer-review management for Wiley in-house chemistry journals, such asAngewandte ChemieChemistry – A European JournalChemistry – An Asian Journal, and the new Open Access titles including Chemistry Open and Chemistry—Methods.
  • Networking with the global scientific and industrial communities
  • Representing Wiley and journals at conferences and institute visits
  • Acquisition of articles to further improve the journal profiles
  • Cooperation with global in-house chemistry editorial colleagues
  • Support of ChemistryViews.org, Advanced Science News and other related portal and social media initiatives
  • Cooperation with other author services, marketing, and account management colleagues to drive China business

We are looking for people who:

  • PhD in chemistry/ materials science with focus on energy related research
  • PhD in chemistry, preferably with specialty in organic chemistry and/or medicinal chemistry
  • PhD in chemistry, preferably with specialty in physical and/or photochemistry
  • PhD in chemistry, preferably with specialty in analytical chemistry and biochemistry
  • Native Mandarin speaker with excellent English (written and oral)
  • Experience in scientific publishing and evaluation of scientific work
  • Good and fast grasp of the main aspects of scientific publications
  • Interest in scientific journalism
  • Team player, strong communication skills, willingness to travel

Journal Publishing Manager  

Position Title: Journal Publishing Manager – Chemistry

Manager: Editorial Manager

Job Summary:

The Physical Sciences group of Wiley China is offering a Journal Publishing Manager position based in our Beijing or Shanghai office to lead and manage the publication of a list of premier partner journals in the subject of chemistry. This professional position requires experience in the functional area; the incumbent will need to acquire knowledge and experience in the discipline, solve a range of straightforward problems using knowledge learned on the job and by applying standard procedures.

How will you make an impact:

  • Coordinate and, where appropriate, lead bids for journal acquisitions in China
  • Maintain relationships with societies and editors of acquisition targets
  • Liaise with colleagues to ensure smooth transition of acquired journals into company processes
  • Improve the financial and publication performance of the journals in the list to best practice levels
  • Lead, plan and implement strategies to develop the current journals in the list to increase readership and dissemination
  • Maintain sound relationships with other staff and customers
  • Liaise closely with the Editors of journals in the list, and assist in developing these journals to their full potential
  • Ensure that the journals are published on time and within budget and to the reasonable expectations of associated societies and Editors in accordance with agreed business practices and plans
  • Ensure that the Editors are kept fully appraised of all activities in relation to the journals
  • Liaise closely with colleagues responsible for marketing the journals and generating advertising and special sales revenue and ensure that clients are kept fully informed.
  • Liaise closely with the Editorial Offices and Content Management regarding any issues arising during the publication of journals in the list
  • Liaise with staff globally to share and maintain relevant knowledge about the subject areas related to journals in the list

We are looking for people who:

  • Master degree chemistry. The candidate must be computer literate and proficient with standard computer applications such as word processing (MS Word), spreadsheet (MSExcel), presentations (Powerpoint), and email (Outlook), as well as internet search/research tools
  • Publishing experience and a track record of journal and society management
  • Demonstrated effective organization skills are essential, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and tight deadlines simultaneously
  • Strong relationship management skills are essential, including the ability to relate successfully to people at all levels of business both externally and internally and to form and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with those people
  • Professional, mature and decisive in approach
  • Demonstrated professional communication skills in English and Mandarin language (written, verbal, and listening) and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
