Advanced Optical Materials专刊:超材料与超表面

自1999年Rodger Walser提出超材料至今的二十年见证了不同频带(微波、太赫兹、红外、可见及紫外)的各种超材料和二维超表面的蓬勃发展。超材料显示出不同与自然材料的超常的电磁性质,如负折射和双曲色散,使其能用于完全成像、隐身、量子效应增强甚至模拟天体力学等全新应用中。近十年来二维超表面引起了广泛研究兴趣,并显示出在操纵电磁波各性质中的巨大潜力。然而光学波段的超材料和超表面的批量生产与理论突破之间的鸿沟仍然存在。比如传统共振超材料器件的操作带宽和效率受限于强的共振阻尼耗能。而色散限制了超透镜在宽频段白光成像中的应用。除了上述理论方面的限制,大批量制备低成本高精度亚波长结构也是亟需解决的挑战。

在过去的几年中,研究人员致力于解决上述问题并取得了很多里程碑的结果。为了展示该领域的最新研究进展,Wiley出版社的Advanced Optical Materials杂志专门组织了“Metamaterials and Metasurfaces”专刊(https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/21951071/2019/7/14)。该专刊由中国科学院光电技术研究所罗先刚研究员担任客座编辑,邀请了领域内的顶级科学家就不同主题撰写综述或研究论文来分享他们在突破领域所面对的挑战的最新发现。专刊共收录20篇文章,其中研究论文7篇、综述13篇,内容涵盖了超材料和超表面领域多个前沿研究方向如介质超表面、平面透镜、光发射、偏振转换、全吸收、等离子体光刻、自旋-轨道作用、磁光效应、倍频、分散工程和动态操作的重要研究进展。
